"Brainerd AMBER Alert Suspect in Custody; Woman and Children Found Safe, Says Sheriff"

BRAINERD, Minn. — A man is in custody after allegedly abducting a pregnant woman and her four children, triggering an AMBER Alert near Brainerd early Friday. Authorities confirmed that all five victims are safe and unharmed.

According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Chad Aanerud is also suspected in a fatal shooting linked to the abduction. The incident began just before 2 a.m. in Maple Grove Township, where Aanerud reportedly forced his 33-year-old girlfriend and her four children—ages 14, 11, 7, and 3—out of a home at gunpoint.

Authorities apprehended Aanerud around 7:15 a.m. after stopping his vehicle in Morrison County. The woman and children were found unharmed in the vehicle.

The fatal shooting victim was identified as 62-year-old Lyle Maske. Both the shooting and abduction remain under investigation. The sheriff’s office also suspects Aanerud of setting fire to a home on the same property where the shooting see more
